Commitment to Public Service & Innovation

Outside of his professional career, Louis pursued his deeper interests by building companies that explored entrepreneurship and education reform.
Sun Cola (Co-Founder)
Louis co-founded Sun Cola, where he formulated an herbal cola that was distributed throughout Southern California. The experience taught him firsthand what it takes to develop, produce, market, and scale a consumer product. He sold the company in the late 1990s.
Class Nube
Inspired by the Global Learning XPRIZE question — “What would an interface look like if a device could be handed to anyone in the world and teach them about reality?” — Louis began developing an educational platform built around interest-based learning.
Believing this model could be transformative, he attempted to present his findings to LAUSD’s iPad Technology Committee. His proposal conflicted with the committee’s planned adoption of Schoology as their Learning Management System, and that the pushback he received ultimately led to learning a narrative that exposed corruption inside LA Public Schools.
OptomystiK
After leaving LAUSD, Louis expanded his concept into OptomystiK — a learning interface embedded within an interactive story.
